We are health conscious people living in the Brownsville area who appreciate the quality of life that is available to us here. What's missing from this idyllic community is access to high quality local produce. As the cost of gas rises to unheard of levels, it becomes more and more apparent that we need to both cultivate local sources of food and find ways of reducing the costs of obtaining healthy food from outside the community. Initially we are addressing these needs by working on two main projects:
We're going to try to stay focused on these primary goals until we have everything running smoothly; at that point the group may explore alternative fuels/energy and transportationand other local sustainability issues.
In our previous incarnation as the Brownsville Co-op, we ran a Food Buyers Club. The operation has been split off from the CFA and is running independently. You can access the Buyers Club page at http://here-we-are.org/buyers
Supporting members contribute $25 to cover some of the initial costs of the CFA (such as the costs of registering with the state, insurance, supplies, etc.). Members are entitled to particiapte at CFA meetings and vote at annual board elections. And most importantly supporting members get the satisfaction that they have helped to build something worthwhile for their community.
To become a supporting member, send a check for $25 made out to "Calapooia Food Alliance" (please don't send cash!) to:
